Young Woman Buried Here Yesterday Afternoon

Mrs. Gladys Storey aged 22 died Tuesday at her Jefferson Street home. Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. E. Kirk were held yesterday afternoon with interment in Roanoke Rapids Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shaw, three sisters and two brothers.

Attempted Robbery at J H Matkins Store

An attempted robbery occurred at 8 o clock tonight at J H Matkins store. The burglars breached a rear window and pulled a screen but were deterred when Matkins entered the shop, and they fled while inside bars blocked access.

Two Hurt In Roanoke Rapids Wreck At South Rosemary Curve

B Cassey and Nazel Gibson were injured when their car wrecked at the South Rosemary curve, striking an electric light pole and causing a power outage in the area. Both men sustained cuts and lacerations. vehicle badly damaged. A 34 pound lobster is noted as the largest caught in American waters.

Roanoke Rapids School Board Nominates Three Slates

Three men filed for the Roanoke Rapids School Board seats for the October 8 election. Incumbent L. S. Gannon filed for reelection. Frank D. Wilson may run again. A. O. Pendleton and Bill Hodges also filed. Pendleton is Roanoke No. 1 superintendent and Hodges oversees Roanoke No. 2. Registration books at the High School close at 4 p.m. Saturday for those not yet registered.
