In Detroit for the world title tournament the Romances of Rose Mary Manufacturing, led by pitcher Russ DeBerry, defeated rivals until losing 9-0 to Bendix Brakes of South Bend in the final. Funeral Victim H. C. Strickland Dies on Farm Near Brink Va
Funeral services were held for H. C. Strickland 55 father of two local men, killed by a tenant on his Va farm near Brink. Charlie Adams 38, a white man, is jailed in Emporia charged with his murder. a hearing is set for Monday. Authorities say the crime occurred about 15 miles from here on the Roanoke Rapids Emporia road.
