The paper prints financial statements of Halifax County and the ABC system showing their finances as solid. It calls for monthly publishing of actions so taxpayers can follow year round and notes that profits from Fata help debt payments.
Mayor Kelly Jenkins presided over 19 cases in City Court. E. J. Bryant and Bruce Nethercutt were cleared of assault with Bryant fined for disorderly conduct and Nethercutt jailed for 30 days for profanity. Andrew Sparks was fined for reckless driving after a crash at South Rosemary. Paul Collins faced larceny charges for taking window weights from the old Panacea Springs hotel. Hannah Jane Kennedy and Ann Nash visited Peggy Grant Lassiter for the weekend.
State Revenue agents have been in Roanoke Rapids for a week checking stores and stands and have billed owners for back sales tax dating over the past two or three years. Merchants Association will discuss the issue this afternoon, with Willard Dowell of the State Merchants Association assisting.
