The Roanoke Rapids Merchants Association schedules five weeks of a Month Trade Event from October 14 to November 14 with special prices on all member merchandise. A final day prize giveaway includes an automobile and other awards to draw thousands to town. Committee of five appointed to handle details.

Hit Run Driver Is Held After Avenue Accident
Cyrial Waters a 10 year old city schoolboy was struck by a hit and run driver on the Avenue yesterday afternoon. His condition tonight at Roanoke Hospital is described as not serious. Joe Johnson a 30 year old colored man is held in the city jail.

First Roanoke Rapids Eagle Scout Eugene Shell Earns Honor
Eugene Shell 18 son of the Roanoke Rapids postmaster became the towns first Eagle Scout. He belongs to Troop 42 led by Scoutmaster Bill Alligood and earned the rank from a local court of honor under J J Sigwald East Carolina Council. He captained the Roanoke Rapids High School basketball team and played right field on the state championship baseball squad before entering the University of North Carolina as a freshman this month.
