A Roanoke Rapids district bond issue for 375000 dollars was approved by 656 votes to 16 with about 130 women voting. Officials say the new high school walls are up to the second floor as construction advances and hope to finish before cold weather.
The American Red Cross announces its annual Roll Call will run from November 11 to 25 with renewed and new memberships sought nationwide. The southern division including Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida plans extensive chapter organizing to surpass prior membership records.
The fourth Masonic district will hold its annual meeting with Roanoke Lodge No. 203 Weldon on October 26, 1920. District Deputy Grand Master Dr M Bolton of Rich Square aims for a successful program with reports, three 15 minute speeches and a Grand Masters address on Masonry. Social time and supper follow, then Jackson Lodge No 56 will confer the third degree on a Weldon candidate.
The honor roll lists 8th grader Onie Glover and Josie Hargrove, 9th grader Louise Jackson and Roland Johnson, and 10th grader Eva Saddler for the month ending October 8 1920. To qualify a pupil must average 90 or above in all subjects, 95 conduct, no tardies, and at most two excused absences.

Tuesday evening about six o'clock infant Byron Russell Weeks Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. B R Weeks, died after weak health. The body was laid to rest in the family cemetery at Lepgetts as Rev EB Few conducted the funeral.
Edward Drumgoole a Brunswick County Va farmer and prominent local figure died at his home after a long illness. He was from a nationally known family whose father served in the U S Senate. Funeral services were held at his home and he was buried in the family cemetery by Rev L N Taylor and Rev Francis Joyner.

The Pearson Farm will be sold at auction on Saturday October 16 at 2 PM, Raleigh Real Estate Company handling the sale. South Rosemary school hosted an evening program with plays The School Board's Visit Seeing Man off and Life of Columbus study by Intermediate students plus drills songs and dramatizations by younger students. The community cracker race drew laughs. Major Morris of Rocky Mount visited Powelltown recently. Mr and Mrs N L Etheredge spent time in Richmond last week.

Mrs A H Green died at her county home near Weldon on Friday October 8th at 6 30 pm in her 75th year. She was daughter of John H Wood a Halifax deputy sheriff in the Civil War and married February 22 1871 to A H Green who served the county in various roles. Funeral held last Sunday at the family burying ground with Rev J G Blalock officiating. Pallbearers named J E Branch J A Branch William Morecock Jno A Johnston Geo C Green Richard Brickell C T Moss W T Shaw. The Roanoke News extends sympathy to the bereaved noting her as a long useful Christian citizen.
The Epworth League of Tabor met Sunday evening at 8:00 led by Mr. Edward Butts. Rev R W Bailey and Charlie Kelly did not respond. A president and vice president were elected and Charlie Brewer was chosen leader for the 3rd Sunday night.
