William Alligood, Weldon marr ied man, bound over to Superior Court without bond on kidnapping and criminal assault charges. Sarah Taylor Harris and Glenn Melwood face aiding and abetting charges with $250 bond set. Prosecution stems from alleged kidnapping and attack on 17 year old Aliese Pearson near Valentine Virginia.

Minstrel Show At Local High School Friday Night

The Kiwanis Minstrel returns for a 4th edition at the high school auditorium Friday night with 75 performers and 13 trunks of costumes and scenery. Tickets cost 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for children. Proceeds support Boy Scouts and underprivileged children. The Minstrel Parade will precede the show on show day.

Matthews Bond Raised in Embezzlement Case

Judge R Hunt Parker raised the bond of E A Matthaus from 5000 to 15000 in the embezzlement matter. Matthews was brought into superior Court this week and the case was continued to the January term. The judge cited his history as district solicitor and his handwritten indictment without giving a reason for the increase.

Mystery Not Yet Cleared in Northampton County Case

Charlie Fayed a 45 year old city grocer was found badly injured in his truck abandoned in a ditch on a country road in Northampton County last Wednesday and remains silent about what happened. He is hospitalized with the potential loss of his right eye and the incident is treated as a mystery with no explanation to relatives or police.

Gurganus Sentenced 15 to 18 Years in Roanoke Rapids Slaying

Wilmer Gurganus was found guilty of manslaughter for killing Joseph R. Jones in Jones home on November 16. Judge R Hunt Parker sentenced him to 15 to 18 years after swift proceedings that included an examining trial and grand jury indictment. The case cited a local crime wave and featured Mrs Jones and the late Mr Jones's 13 year old son LeRoy as key witnesses.

The Roanoke Rapids Parent Teachers Association endorses a Sunday benefit picture at a local theatre for underprivileged children. Manager Lyle Wilson will donate the theatre space and film costs, with admission by offering. It will be Roanoke Rapids first Sunday matinee fundraiser.
