Kiwanis Club defeats Young Mens Civic Club in volleyball at the High School gym four games to one. Losers challenge Kiwanis to a football game to even the score.
Richmond Virginia November 7 police and state authorities plus Prince George officers hold four men as they pursue the vanished suspect Roy Brown feared to be an escaped North Carolina convict. The group linked to last Sundays crime wave in the Petersburg Hopewell area faces drunken driving and related charges as investigators reconstruct events.
Whit Anthony a prisoner from Heathsville camp was killed when struck by a truck driven by Willie King 20 of Littleton late Tuesday afternoon near Arlie. King posted 500 bond and says he did not know he hit Anthony. Three other prisoners said the truck passed a car and struck two men at the road edge. Murray Myrick of Littleton owned the truck. Normal Edwards and Howard Walker rode with King.
Paul H. Rose founder and President Treasurer of Rose's 5 10 and 25 cent Stores opens a new Roanoke store at 1005 1009 Roanoke Avenue. The Roanoke Rapids location ranks among the largest of its kind in Eastern Carolina with more than 5000 square feet of floor space.
In a countywide race the Democratic slate led with Julian R. Allsbrook obtaining 2,768 votes for State Senator while Leonidas Hux secured 2,766 for Clerk. Statewide results show Judge R. Hunt Parker with 2,901 votes and Kerr close at 2,888 for Congress, with Roanoke Rapids giving Allsbrook 1,091 votes.
Judge Small dissolved contempt orders against eight Roanoke Mills Co employees and others for circulating petitions to disrupt Dr. T. W. M. Long's 1932 medical contract. Plaintiffs failed to prove knowledge of a restraining order from Judge Frizelle. Defendants named Clifton Davis, EB Hogan, O F Ray, Clifton Grant, Tommy Beale, Loftin Rock, Garland Wheeler, and Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Davis.
The L Wheeden Co wins the contract for the Roanoke Rapids graded school district project. Construction starts next week on Cedar Street between 7th and 8th, west side of the avenue. Low bid $22 375. plumbing $3 950. Total cost with lots and architect fees $29 644 for 24 lots in the central block.
