Holloman Dairy truck caught fire about 5:30 last Friday morning in West Rosemary. A shorted wire is suspected to have caused the blaze but firefighters prevented a total loss. Driver Troy Holloman said the truck carried only a few empty bottles and no milk was spilled. the vehicle had burned previously on two occasions.
The VFW has led efforts to establish National and State Soldiers' Homes as shelters for veterans unable to support themselves. Membership supports keeping these Homes open for future comrades facing disability or old age, as none can predict when such aid may benefit them personally.
Johnny Lorie of Enfield route 1 was injured when his hand was caught in a planing machine at a saw mill near his home Monday. He was admitted to Roanoke Rapids Hospital about 12 30 for treatment and lost two fingers. He remained overnight then returned home Tuesday. He is 19 and the son of H H Lorie a prominent farmer in the area.
Mr and Mrs Ollie Wright spent the weekend with relatives at Brunswick. Miss Rosa Johnson spent the weekend visiting friends at Pote Casí.
