A majority of Roanoke stores will close at 1 PM every Wednesday during June July and August as part of an annual summer half holiday. Miss Jennie Walton secretary of the Merchants Association announced the plan saying it is decided each year to give employees added recreation. Customers are advised to plan around the midweek closures.
Democratic voters in Halifax County will choose candidates for county offices including State Senate House of Representatives Clerk of Superior Court Sheriff five County Commissioners and Recorder’s Court Judge while also voting in the statewide contest for U S Senate with Josiah Bailey opposing Richard Fountain Polls open 6 30 a m and close 6 30 p m Eastern War Time Registrars and judges urged to arrive by 6 a m for inspection duties
