War Production Board eyes 18 percent wool and cotton rise
The War Production Board announced an urgent textile production drive aiming to restore output to peak levels. Kenneth Marriner said the goal is at least 18 percent more wool and cotton and 7 percent more rayon to reach prewar production. Military needs for cotton and wool remain high due to shifting combat zones and climate. General Somervell explained tropical to temperate transitions for troops and the need for wool clothing for the final assault on Japan.
