Raleigh May 23 Certifications of teachers to receive parts of their salaries from a 500 000 grant from the federal government were practically completed last week by Dr A T Allen and hope is expressed that all teachers will receive full final months pay within two weeks Some schools closed may delay two to three weeks for last months pay Governor Ehringhaus said efforts to allow full pay from federal rules failed necessitating this delay.
The district plans to issue grants within one to three weeks to fund teacher pay. If the grant is delayed, teachers may receive their pay only on the day schools close, and many will do so regardless.
One thousand acres of a 6 000 acre Onslow county tract owned by the State Board of Education has been leased for one year with renewal option to the State relief administration led by Mrs. Thomas O Berry. The nominal consideration is ten dollars yearly. The land will provide unemployed families with garden and truck tracts to grow crops this year to cut direct relief needs.
The regular yearly meeting of the Associated Charities will be at the Episcopal Church Tuesday night May 29 at 7 30 to hear reports and elect officers for the ensuing year.
