Community Red Cross Drive Goes Over The Top
Four meetings last Saturday set the community on a fast track to the second hundred million Red Cross fund. Maj Rooneys address and Marine Orchestra energized crowds at Central School Auditorium and again at Sunday services boosting subscriptions to about 4000 before the drive opens. Donations from Roanoke Mills Co and Rosemary Manufacturing Co push the total toward ten thousand with a $100 cow donated to be auctioned Saturday. The local chapter reported 104 pajama pairs, 344 hospital bed shirts, and 59 convalescent robes shipped to Atlanta.
