Halifax county Democratic Convention opens at 11 a m Saturday in the county courthouse with Dr B M Nicholson presiding Delegates named at precinct meetings on May 9 to attend the May 16 convention and the State Convention in Raleigh May 23 to shape final party policies.
A gangling youth, George Clyde Hengy Jr, fled his Corpus Christi home after shooting his mother dead. He is held by Roanoke Rapids police pending Lone Star state charges. His 8 year old sister Zina rode with him until found safe. Hengy was arrested after a car crash in Northampton county. officers learned of the murder from Corpus Christi police.
Eligible county voters who have not registered have one day left to register for the Democratic Primary on May 30. The precinct books close at 6 o clock Saturday night. To register a voter must be 21, a state resident for one year, and have four months’ residency in the precinct or county prior to the November 3, 1942 election.
