Roanoke Rapids area notes halt at Halifax visits and local moves with bank ads urging thrift. townsfolk from Roanoke Rapids and nearby areas, including Vaughan and Long, frequent Halifax, Littleton, and Weldon with church events, civic notices, and a concert for Rosemary Church funding.
National Association announces bills across 32 states addressing tuberculosis. Proposals include reporting and registering all living TB cases in six states, removing infectious consumptives, establishing local TB hospitals with subsidies, and reorganizing state health work.
A 1914 health initiative led by Dr T W M Long and Mayor J T Chase reports large funds used to drain ditches remove underbrush and oil streams around Roanoke Rapids to curb malaria. Surveys show dramatic declines in malaria prevalence with ongoing need for oiling, ditching, and public education to achieve near removal within three years.
A state health official notes North Carolina risks losing accurate nationwide death statistics due to a clause in a 1913 vital statistics bill. The Senate has passed a repeal to ensure proper death certificate handling and potential federal revenue for copies of vital records. A stockholders meeting in Roanoke Rapids is scheduled March 5 to discuss increasing capital stock and related business.
County officials announce sealed bids for jail and building work to be let under separate contracts. Specifications available at the commissioners office in Raleigh and county offices. The trustees reserve the right to reject any or all bids. Halifax March 1.

The Rosemary Opera House hosts Christian Church services on Sunday with morning and evening gatherings at 11:00 and 7:30. Christian Endeavor meets at 5:51. A welcome is extended by Supt C H Speight and L G Shell. Sunday School follows Roanoke Rapids service with W W Woodruff in charge. Sermon topics include The Broad Way and The Narrow Way and The Teaching of Christ on Prayer. Night services note a layman leading.
Miss Florence Bain celebrated her seventh birthday with friends at her parents A. L. and Mrs Bain on Jackson Street. Guests enjoyed cake and ice cream after games including pinning the tail on the donkey and treasure hunts. Prizes went to Libby Rook Buddie and Jackson.
