A 28 year old Weldon waitress identified as Mrs Bessie Fan of Warrenton described to police how an unidentified man bound gagged and carried her from her second story room to the stairs before dropping her and fleeing He suffered shock and minor bruises but was unhurt The posse with bloodhounds tracked a winding route through woods and fields but yielded no clues The victim was treated and released from Roanoke Rapids Hospital The investigation remained without a solid lead with the sheriff SBI and local officers involved
Roanoke Rapids pitchers held off Elizabeth City as the Legion Juniors won 14 to 5. Troy Hasty worked the full game for Roanoke Rapids with nine strikeouts, guiding them to a 4th victory against 2 losses and solidifying second place in the Legion League. The locals broke the game open with seven runs in the early innings and five more in the ninth, aided by Clyde Waters’s bases clearing double.
The City Commissioners meet for the third time in as many weeks and appoint Bernard Allybrook as city attorney at a temporary salary of 50 and to handle all legal matters. A Health Department representative proposes a $500 rat control program due to higher poison costs, with a possible date postponement. The board also recommends to the State Highway Department the $4 600 land use credit to fund reconditioning Roanoke Avenue.
All Saints Episcopal Church Vacation Bible School closes with morning commencement at 9 20 and a 5 30 gathering for a swim and picnic at Weldon pool. Members urged to attend with bathing suits and family. Car owners should transport those without rides to the 5 30 gathering. Vestry notes land clearing for a new parish house to begin in two to three months unless material costs rise.

Mill officials announce a holiday on Friday July 4 in observance of Independence Day creating a long weekend for workers. The annual summer vacation will run the week starting Sunday July 27 with pay for eligible employees at two percent of straight time earnings for the year July 1 1946 to June 30 1947. Vacation pay checks arrive August 8 after a July 26 payroll.
Reverend John T. Maides Jr. received a bachelor of divinity from Duke Divinity School in Durham on June 2. He has earned an associate of arts from Louisburg College and a bachelor of arts from High Point College, and hails from Maysville, North Carolina.
Revival services at the Gaston Baptist Church run from June 28 to June 9. Rev. Gordon L. Price, pastor of First Baptist Roanoke Rapids, will lead the event starting at 10 p.m. each evening.

Lions Club sponsors the Coronation Ball to select a Queen for the Community Celebration on July 3. Algie Butts and his Eastern Aires will play music for the event, with a 1 PM start and dancing from 10 to 2. Tickets are on advance sale through Lions Club members.
