The local Masonic Order will ceremonially lay the Roanoke Rapids Methodist Church corner stone next Tuesday at 7:30 PM. Community members are invited to attend as the church's construction marks a progressive milestone and a call to participate in the celebration.
The Roanoke News reports Mia B D Hamill of Thelma died in a Norfolk hospital last Saturday after a two week post operative illness ending in lockjaw. Interred Monday in the family burying ground. She leaves a husband and two children and was sister to Mr H L Grant.
The Rt. Rev. Jos. Blount Cheshire D D Bishop of North Carolina will visit All Saints Episcopal Church next Sunday at eleven for a service. A class of candidates will be presented to receive the laying on of hands in confirmation. The public is invited.
Local contractor J R Myrick endured painful injuries Monday afternoon when a wagon hauling for him rolled over his body. He was riding on the wagon between the wheels and likely fainted from heat, causing him to fall. The rear wheel passed over him before the driver halted, but his injuries proved not serious and he is able to be out.

Topping Minister and Sunday School Superintendent preach Sunday morning at ten o clock and Sunday night at eight o clock with Sunday School at eleven. Prayer meeting held every Tuesday night.
The local Masonic lodge elected officers for the ensuing year at their regular communication. Master is Mr. Job Senior. other officers and positions were filled as part of the meeting.
The Community Betterment League held its regular monthly meeting at Central School auditorium at 4 30. After routine business the group voted to invite Mrs Kate Brew Vaughan Director of Infant Hygiene of the State Board of Health to address a called meeting on Friday night June 27th.
