Goldsboro July 23 In an interview with Hon W S O B Robinson one of the defendants attorneys for the Goldsboro Record editors C A and G W Brown and Geo A Norwood president of the National Bank of this city who eee recently served with papers by the sheriff citing them to appear in the Superior court Halifax county at the August term in a damage suit instituted against them by Judge Peebles for 20000 Judge Robinson stated that the court calendar for this term had not been set and he could also state upon good authority that the case would not receive a hearing at this term as the civil docket is crowded with other cases
Mr C M Dickens wins contract to erect a new two story brick building next to Mrs Jenkins store. The structure will house Mrs Jenkins herself. W D Tillery has contracted remodeling the front of his dry goods department with new windows and pressed brick frontage.
Miss Irene Cannon hosted a Friday night watermelon party at Mrs. Charlena Hart's Rose mary residence and then toured to Mr. Cannon's farm for a lively gathering. Guests included Annie Edgerton of Kenly Virginia Charlena Hart Lucille Ramsay of Newport News Minette Marshall Evelyn and Mabel Boyd Winifred Beckwith Addie Belle Gammon Elizabeth Bagley Bowen and several men led by G L Hayes Monroe Jenkin L Towe John Hassell Clarence Grimmer RL Dickens and George Carmichael.
The Roanoke Rapids Baptist church organized a Ladies Aid Society divided into five circles. Circle No 1 met at Mrs T D Parker home with 13 members present. Parker led, songs followed by scripture and prayer. Officers elected include Mrs W C Allabrook secretary and Mrs Sam Marks treasurer. Mrs W F Lee and Mrs Ida Taylor named visiting and sick committees. Plans discussed to raise funds to buy a church piano. Circle 1 to meet at Mrs Ida Taylors home on Thursday night July 29.
