Saturday is the final day to register for the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District bond election to issue 200000 for water and sewer extensions. A few voters have registered but many may show little interest. registration and voting are required if you participate. Registration sites include Precinct 1 Warehouse on Second Street, Precinct 2 Municipal Fire Station, and Precinct 3 Rosemary Grade School at 11th and Hamilton. books close Saturday.

Powell Back in Germany After Re‑enlistment
Pvt Rodney Powell, four year WWI veteran, re-enlisted for overseas duty and is back in Germany. In a letter to his mother he reports that people in Germany are in bad way. Pvt Thomas G. McClure 24, nephew of Mrs H M Hudson and Mrs J M Ingram of this city, was killed July 15 when a wrecker crashed into a building in Chaumont France. Death from skull fracture and internal injuries. Son of Mrs H G McClure of Newport News Virginia served four years in the army with assignments in Panama Puerto Rico and overseas two years before returning for a six month period.

Old-Fashion County Fair Returns After War Pause
The Veterans of Roanoke Rapids Inc announce a full week county fair in September starting Monday the 16th through Saturday the 21st. A premium book will be mailed by September 1. Prizes will honor top displays by 4 H clubs and Home Demonstration Clubs for agricultural products with ribbons awarded.

Lieutenant Wilfred Davis Killed in Kansas Plane Crash
First Lieutenant Wilfred O'Dell Davis Jr., 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Davis of Weldon, died when an Army C-17 transport crashed ten miles east of Goodland Kansas on July 18. Also killed were ten aboard including Lieutenant James Daniels of Robersonville. Davis, who enlisted in 1943 and trained as a fighter pilot, had recent leave before deployment to overseas service. funeral arrangements are pending.

Alton Gentry Edwards died at 6:40 AM in Roanoke Rapids Hospital after injuries from a December basketball accident developed into a malignant growth. He was a Roanoke Rapids High School tenth grader and a member of the school band. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs Ross L Edwards and siblings Sandra Mary Kitty and Ross Jr US Navy. Funeral Friday 4:30 PM at home with Rev Lester A Tilley, interment Roanoke Rapids Cemetery.

Inquest Delayed In Richmond Woman Fatal Crash
The inquest into Norman Dumm's death after a collision between a car driven by Lawrence Aery and a truck near Weldon was postponed due to Aery's injuries. Miss Dumm, 26, a Richmond native, died. her body was sent to Columbus for interment. Three others from Richmond were injured and treated at Roanoke Rapids Hospital.

At its last Tuesday meeting the Roanoke Rapids Rotary Club voted to make the air show an annual affair. Plans are underway for a show the first part of October 1947 at Halifax County Airport with hopes to upgrade runways for larger planes. The recent show, though hot and challenging, was a success and offered lessons for future events.

Brantley Jailed on Wife Beating Charge in Roanoke Rapids
Brantley J. H. Btantley, a white man, is scheduled for trial in Roanoke Rapids Recorder's Court next Thursday on a wife beating charge. The alleged incident occurred at his Fergon Street home Sunday afternoon. He is held in Halifax County Jail on a $500 bond.

Arrington Man Held on Assault Charges
Under bond of 100 dollars, a man described as a negro in Arrington faces two counts of assaulting James Henry Lee, another negro. Lee was cut with a knife during a fight last Saturday morning. Officer P. C. Luter made the arrest.
