Halifax appoints Millikin as postmaster Saturday

Postmaster Millikin, recently appointed with Congressman Kerr's support, takes over duties Saturday afternoon in Halifax. A Halifax Mercantile Co. partner and former House candidate, he enjoys strong local backing. He is son of D. J. Millikin, a prominent Halifax farmer and magistrate.

The Halifax County budget proposes a 10 cent tax rise to 90 cents per hundred dollars for 1936 37, with an estimated county valuation of 30 million dollars and total operating needs of 357 593.89. State and outside sources cover 87 593.89, leaving 270 000 to be raised from local property taxes, allocated to General fund 15 cents and County Home and Outside Poor 5 cents, unchanged from last year.
