Christian Church Gleanings Ice cream supper raises funds
The Aid Society at Rosemary school house last Saturday night sold bananas, cake and cream to raise 22.40 with a net profit of 13.15. Twenty members contributed 42.55 two weeks later, largest donor Mrs Ogie Gay 9.11. A Roanoke Rapids prayer meeting starts Fridays. The local Christian church is one year old with 177 members. Two months ago a pastor organized a Christian church in Littleton with 15 members, later five more joined. A school hall was renovated for services, a piano installed, electric lights added, and a new church lot bought for immediate building.

Bankers Hill Hotel Burns In Roanoke Rapids Fire
Roanoke Rapids residents were summoned to the large blaze at the Bankers Hill Hotel where the roof collapsed before firefighters arrived. The Roanoke Mills Company owned building housing smallpox patients last winter. Moses Whitley, occupant, lost most household goods but insurance covers five hundred dollars.

Death of G M Spain in Roanoke Rapids
G M Spain died Thursday night at seven at his Middle Street home after a tuberculosis illness. He leaves a wife and five children. Interment is planned Sunday at 3 PM in Roanoke Rapids cemetery. He had lived in Roanoke Rapids about eight years and was well known. The community offers sympathy to the family. A tight shoe is better than a "tight" head.
