State Board Considers New Avenue Project for Roanoke Rapids
The State Highway Commission in Raleigh discussed a possible new cheaper road replacing the oil treated route from the Virginia line toward Emporia with macadam. A concrete 17 mile option was deemed too costly for Halifax County funds. Local leaders urged speed on widening and improving the Avenue and Lawrenceville road. The Roanoke Rapids delegation included Frank Joyner, Kelly Jenkins, Alfred Martin, Charley Davis, and Carroll Wilson.

State cannot license hunting on national forests after transfer
The solicitor of the U S Forest Service holds that when state lands become national forests under federal control the state loses authority to require licenses for hunting and fishing there. Therefore laws directing use of funds from those lands are illegal and of no effect.
