The Roanoke Rapids Civilian Defense Council says there will be no blackout Friday night though a citywide test is planned for an early date. Local mills and Virginia Electric and Power asked for a date, but preparations and instructions delay the first test.

Halifax county Superior court jury returned a not guilty verdict for Albert Jones a local textile worker charged with criminally assaulting Miss Marie Beale 18 of this city on the night of December 6 The trial consumed all sessions Wednesday and Thursday and the verdict was reached about 5 o'clock this afternoon.

President's Ball to Feature Duke Ambassadors at Roanoke Rapids Armory
Lions Club sponsors announce plans for the 1941 President's Ball to benefit the Infantile Paralysis Fund. The event will be held Friday night in the new Armory, with the Duke Ambassadors led by Vince Courtney providing music. Dancing runs 10 pm to 2 am, admission 1.50 per couple and 50 cents for spectators, with half the proceeds staying in the county.
