Local news reports a serious injury to Julius Jones eleven son of Mr and Mrs J P Jones of Patterson Mills Village after a shovel struck his head on the Rosemary School grounds. He received prompt medical treatment and the operation was successful with hopeful recovery.
A 74 year old man, William Allen, fell from his wagon on a frozen road four miles from town on Monday afternoon. His skull was crushed, he died hours later after being taken home and a physician's efforts failed to revive him. Burial followed Tuesday at Shiloh Church burying grounds.
A note of thanks expresses gratitude to the men of the mills and all who tried to save the building that was destroyed. The message says their efforts will be remembered and appreciated by Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dobbins and UB.
In snow on January 26, Roanoke Rapids High lost 20 to 9 at Enfield, the season’s first defeat. Daughtry led Roanoke Rapids with 7 of 9 points, Dickens scored 12 of Enfield’s 20, and both teams played in good spirit on an outdoor court.

A Tuesday afternoon blaze destroyed the Rosemary Theatre building on Roanoke Avenue collapsing stairs access and forcing evacuation. Raymond Speight rescued his elderly mother and others from the second floor as flames spread, with nearby mills and manufacturers aiding to save the block. Losses include the Dobbins ice cream parlor and several households, totaling around forty thousand dollars with insurance for partial coverage.

Charles M. Lance pastor will lead a Sunday School Conference at 11 A.M. and 7 30 P.M. Special music by Prof. R L Milam at both services. A similar service will be held at Smiths at 8 P.M. All are cordially invited.
North Carolina boys and girls captured three prizes at the Madison Square Garden Poultry Show in New York City. The NC exhibit topped open competition with US, Canadian, and English professionals, earning a second in black Langshan hens and thirds or fifths in Buff Plymouth Rock classes. A prominent NC display of ten Rhode Island Red cockerels drew praise and was auctioned off to breeders.
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture recommends pulverized limestone with acid phosphate or other fertilizers to boost yields and cut production costs. Experiments show wheat with lime yields about $18.23 more per acre and hay markets six times higher with limestone. Orders, priced at $2.50 a ton bulk or $4.30 a ton in 200 lb bags, are available through Commissioner W A Graham in Raleigh.
Roanoke Chapter 119 of the Order of the Eastern Star formed a committee to aid the Cemetery Association in improving the cemetery conditions. Members were asked to contribute 50 cents to the Cemetery Fund, and a hospital committee was named to visit the hospital regularly. The chapter also requested the next District Meeting be held in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. J. W. Massey of Green presents Freckles at ville North Carolina. He oversees Roanoke Bakery Company installing machinery and expects operation within ten days. The plant will bake 3000 loaves daily and expand from Massey’s Greenville plant and Ayden retail bakery. The Roanoke Rapids operation will be led by a head baker with over forty years in the trade.
Miss Annie Workman was called to her Camden home after her brother’s death. Various residents including Mr F C Williams, Miss White, Mr D L Leslie, Miss Millie Pearson, Dr Job Taylor and others spent the weekend with relatives or on business in Richmond Oxford Norfolk Henderson and New York.
Mr Millard Merritt spent the weekend with his parents in Norfolk. Miss Mattie Rice of Oxford visited Mrs A D Glover. South Rosemary School notes Miss Washburn discontinued the picture show to meet expenses as 100 attendees are needed. Teachers and pupils thank Miss Washburn for her help and spirit. Mrs Millard Taylor is very sick. Misses Mattie Hudson and Helen Powell visited Weld friends. The high school candy stew entertained Friday with fudge and pull cooling. students later went to Roanoke Rapids for a basketball game. The school plans many spring activities.
The Rosemary Laundry Company announces it will begin operation in a few days using a wet wash method, doing washing only. The move aims to fill a long felt community need as families struggle to secure washerwomen.
Rosemary Supply Company thanks the community for assistance during last Tuesday's fire amid the heroic work of fellow citizens. T. M. Jenkins signs the notice expressing gratitude for cooperation and aid.
Shortly after one o clock Monday a fire was discovered in an outhouse on the Exchange Hotel property. A hose line was connected but the two room frame building could not be saved. Loss estimated about 500 dollars. Moore Brothers, owners, thank the helpers who aided in extinguishing the blaze.
Roanoke Rapids High School extended its winning streak to five with a 22 to 14 victory over Rich Square on Friday January 21. Saunders led the Roanoke Rapids scoring with four field goals followed by Daughtry with three.
