Local Women Host Menu of Witty Husband Quizzes at Springs

The Aurelian Springs women held a banquet awarding prizes for best answers to questions about husbands and the kitchen utensil contest. Participants read responses aloud, with questions ranging from loyalty to marital quirks and a list of humorous prompts. A musical program by Melody Lane Trio aired at Kiwanis Club and new members were welcomed. A daughter Doris Lee arrived January 17 to Mr. and Mrs. (Continued on Back Page).

Melody Lane: 15 Minute WRVA Program From Local Trio

A 15 minute broadcast titled Melody Lane will air on WRVA Richmond next Wednesday afternoon February 13 from 3 to 3 15. The trio Thurman Underwood Bob Andrews on guitar and Orahaim Lynch on piano earned the hour after a Tuesday audition at the Richmond station and impressed at the Kiwanis Club tonight.

Bills Move Through Legislature Echoing Ejectment and Garnishment Reforms

Senate Bill 95 extends ejectment notice for weekly tenants from 48 hours to one week and awaits House action. Senator Allsbrook also sees progress on abolishing collector fees in garnishment for taxes with a threshold of 15 workers, pending final ratification into law.

Roanoke Rapids Merchants Plan Feb 12 Banquet

The Roanoke Rapids Merchants Association will hold its annual banquet and officer election at 7 p m Tuesday night Feb 12 at the Junior High School building. John P Swain secretary of the Raleigh Merchants Association will be the principal speaker. One member from each in good standing is admitted free. others pay 60 cents per plate. The President, Vice President and part of the Board of Directors will be elected.

Mary Powell Found Dead In Roanoke Rapids Area

Mystery surrounds the Monday morning death of 36 year old Mary Powell found on her home kitchen floor near Quankey Church, six miles from Roanoke Rapids. Her body was wrapped in a quilt and discovered by her brother Saul Powell.

Popular Roanoke Rapids youth killed in river road crash

James Clifton Pridgen a 20 year old Roanoke Rapids boy was killed instantly when his car left river road after the Roanoke River bridge at 10:30 Saturday. Companions Tug, Lemon Brown and W B Bradley escaped with injuries as Pridgen’s car skidded and overturned trapping him beneath it.

Allsbrook Addresses State College Young Democratic Club

Senator Julian Allsbrook of Halifax County spoke to the State College Young Democratic Club in Raleigh. He urged students to study government activity and emphasized fair play and youth advancement as essential to the Democratic Party’s future.
