Six Women Hospitalized After Weldon Bridge Crash
Six women were injured, two seriously, when two cars collided near the Weldon bridge. Dr Ruth J Brown of Heathsville and Miss Laura Jett of Reedville suffered head injuries and broken legs respectively, with others from Virginia also treated.

Halifax County Man Killed at Skippers Virginia
Walter Carter age 56 native of Halifax County was killed Monday night when struck by a car driven by Wick Cagle of Roanoke Rapids near Skippers Virginia. The Roanoke Rapids boy and R G Floyd were returning home when the accident occurred. Carter’s body was taken to Emporia and funeral services were held at 2 PM with burial at Aurleian Springs. Carter is survived by his wife Cornelia and three brothers Andrew James and Adolphus. Virginia authorities will investigate at Emporia on January 10. Also notices describe a December 1937 marriage in Rich Square North Carolina.

Norfolk Man Dies in Christmas Day Car Wreck
Cloud Kitchin Suits, 24, fatally injured in an automobile wreck Christmas Day near Roanoke Rapids died before reaching Roanoke Rapids Hospital. He drove a convoy truck for a Norfolk company. his father lives in Emporia. Funeral services were held Sunday with interment at Mt. Vernon Church in Brunswick County Va.

The Merchants Association announced three cash prizes totaling 300 dollars were claimed by Roanoke Rapids residents. First prize of 150 dollars went to Mrs. A W Williams of 216 Madison Street, a widow whose son Horace is unemployed. Second prize of 100 dollars went to Mrs. G L Tickel of Franklin Street and third prize of 50 dollars to Mrs. J L Langston Jr of 225 Washington Street. Out of town entries remained unclaimed.

Plane crash injures Littleton boys at Aurelia n Springs
Willis Taylor and Clarence Browning, both from Littleton, were injured when a Travel-Aire X-5 plane crashed near Aurelia n Springs while attempting to land. Taylor returned to work after minor injuries. Browning was seriously hurt and later discharged. Cause cited as jammed right aileron with speed 90 to 100 mph. plane struck a power pole and scattered wreckage.
