Residence Destroyed by Flames on Aurelian Springs Road
Fire at 11 yesterday morning gutted the two story residence of Charles Cook located between Shell's store at the crossroads and Mrs. J. B. O Briant's home on the Aurelian Springs road. The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department arrived too late as the fire had extensive headway. part of the furniture had been saved.

Mrs. W. A. Thorne led Roanoke Rapids women in seeking Kiwanis support for a Community Recreation building. Initiated by the PTA, backed by the Women’s Club and Kiwanis, with Young Men's Civic Club later invited. A two-member from each group recreation committee will be formed. Women’s Club departments cover garden welfare and arts and literature, including a public library of 400 recent books. Citizens are responsible for the effort.

Noah J. Wheeler, father of Garland Wheeler of this city, died at his home near Seaboard yesterday. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the residence.

Peace resigns as official at Roanoke and Patterson Mills
At a New York meeting of the Roanoke Mills Co. and Patterson Mills Co. directors accepted the resignation of S. T. Peace as President, Manager and Treasurer after seven years with the mills. Alfred Terrell was elected President and Treasurer. F. C. Williams and Hugh D. Camp were named vice presidents. Terrell to remain in New York while local officials manage daily operations in Henderson.
