Woman Fends Off Escaped Convict At Seaboard Home
Mrs. Eddie Haye of Summit North Carolina shot at Will Stewart an escaped Black convict who returned with a crow bar to force entry to her home near a water tank. Stewart was wounded in the leg and treated at Roanoke Rapids Hospital before transfer to Virginia Penitentiary. Neighbors praise Haye for her calm defense of her home and children.

Miss Julia Grace Cunningham wed Will Clarke of Hollister North Carolina at the Cunningham home last Wednesday night. Attendants include Robert and Thomas Clark Samsark Jame Slark David Harris and others from Littleton Enfield and surrounding towns. Cunningham, known in Roanoke Rapids and the county, taught at Aurelian Springs High School and volunteered as a nurse during the 1918 19 flu epidemic.

A Cat Mothers a Rat In Enfield Progress Tale
The Enfield Progress reports a unique household where a mother cat adopted a young rat along with two kittens. The cat found two kittens days earlier and after catching a rat brought it home. She now nurses the rat and the kittens, with the rat playing with the mother and kittens as it grows comfortable in the home.
