Roanoke Rapids Junior Legion Rally Faces Age Protest

After beating all elimination opponents for the state title the Roanoke Rapids Junior Legion team finished with protests over players ages. A focal Legion Post filed protests against two Durham players and three Gaston players could not prove ages. Gastonia won a deciding game Tuesday as officials launch a thorough investigation into every Gastonia player ahead of the next state/regional play.

Canning drives and tax remittance reports across counties

Community canning for school lunches took place in Roseneath Hollister Halifax and Dawson clubs with forthcoming Halifax Roseneath Har dranee and Hobgood canning. County taxes show Cabarrus and Granville leading payments for 1932 ad valorem. Cabarrus nearly paid 1931 taxes and Stedman notes partial payments in other counties. Fire Chief Myrick and two deputies attended the State Fire Convention at Hamlet with 800 to 1000 delegates expected.

Weldon Club and Kiwanis to Stage Interclub Meet at Chockoyette

Weldon Community Club and Roanoke Rapids Kiwanis Club meet at Chockoyette Country Club with barbecue and Brunswick stew for about sixty guests. Ray Goodman leads the program featuring a athletes meet between the clubs including broad jump three legged race potato races golf driving and tug of war. Prizes provided by local businessmen.

Gun Totter Arrested Near Roanoke Rapids Depot

C M Dunn was arrested near the Roanoke Rapids depot after officers Green and Welch found a pistol on him. He waived preliminary hearing and posted a $100 cash bond for Recorders Court. Dunn, from Charleyhope Virginia, is accused of flashing the weapon in town and across the river in Northampton County.

Local delegates hail convention success and business moves

State and local delegates report a very successful convention. The M System Store has moved two doors north to the former S C Cook building. The Kidd Tea Cream Company of Roanoke Rapids makes a role in an announcement and Mr and Mrs W H Riggan announce the marriage of their daughter Annie Mae to Johnnie C Brigman on August 5 at Portsmouth Virginia. Mr and Mrs W L Kee and Mrs Fenton Johnson attend the funeral of Mrs Kee's sister at Seaboard Sunday.

Suspects cleared in Granville County fatal shooting case

Genkae eet Nyesone and Robert Moore, both of this city, were cleared of any connection to the death of Otho D. Lyon Sr. in Granville County last week. Two men, Buster McQueen and Roosevelt Thompson, remain jailed. a third associate, Buster Baker, is being sought in Halifax County.

Mrs. Elizabeth Little Dies at 74 in South Rosemary

Mrs Elizabeth Little 74 died in South Rosemary near her homeland. Funeral services were held at 3 p m with a home service by Rev Fountain of Weldon. Interment followed in Northampton County. She left many relatives in Roanoke Rapids Halifax and Northampton counties.

Returns To Find Old Warrant Open

Curley Lacey a colored man who left these parts in April 1931 returned and was arrested last night on a larceny charge of that date. He was charged with stealing wrenches from a local car. Magistrate Thompson released him after he paid for the wrenches and the cost of the court. Chambliss and Miss Ophelia Chambliss spent the weekend in Lawrenceville visiting relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs P A Reid at summer school in Chapel Hill spent the weekend here. Mrs W C Bagwell and daughter Mae Belle of Spartanburg S C spent the weekend with Miss Ruth Case. Mr and Mrs E S Riddles and daughter Eloise of Hillsboro spent the weekend with Mrs Riddle's parents Mr and Mrs John Wood.
