The Civic Clip Council with Kiwanis, Rotary and others met at the Municipal Building led by Ray Stephenson. They approved a Constitution, discussed electric Welcome signs at three Roanoke Rapids entrances, and planned publicizing work with each organization. They also considered reviving State Guard interest and funding a Teen-Age Club supervisor for two evenings weekly on probation, with monthly disbursements through the adult committee.

Young Man Jailed for Murder After Family Tragedy
Willie Lewis Alston an 18 year old of Enfield area is jailed in Halifax County on a murder charge for killing his father Willie Alston 37 at their home on the resettlement project. He says his father choked his mother after returning home drunk then he struck his father with an ax. Coroner and sheriff investigations confirm the accounts. Alston waived preliminary hearing and is held for Superior Court with trial expected as court convenes next week.

Soldier Home on 30 Day Visit from Oliver General
