Officials for June Primary Appointed by Halifax County
The Halifax County Election Board appointed precinct election officers for the June primary after a four hour session at the courthouse. The new County Election Board consists of Wm Bellamy of Scotland Neck as chairman, Joe Wollett of Littleton, and Dana Dickens of Darlington. The board was appointed in Raleigh by the State Election Board with Bellamy and Wollett recommended by Dr. T W M Long, chairman of the county Democratic Executive Committee, and a majority of the committee. Objections were raised from the floor by precinct chairmen and precinct committeemen during the open meeting.

Local Woman Recovers After Poison Ingestion
Mrs. Duval Murray, 20, suffered bichloride of mercury tablets on Tuesday morning and was admitted to Roanoke Rapids Hospital at 11 AM. A stomach pump removed the poison, she regained consciousness Wednesday, and her voice is no longer at risk as she rests and improves.

Postponed hearing on Menke bus line for Roanoke Rapids area
The North Carolina Utilities Commission postponed the April 17 hearing on Wilbur F. Menke seeking to operate a Roanoke Rapids Weldon Halifax route. Willis Perkins, manager of the city bus system, praised the current service and municipal support as a victory while questioning Menke’s business prospects. Perkins launched the local bus service February 19 and reports solid patronage.

Flagman in Fatal Fall at Weldon Station
T M Batten Atlantic Coast Line flagman of Richmond is in Rocky Mount hospital after a fall from overhead tracks near Union Station Weldon at 2 15 Wednesday morning. He plunged about 500 feet through wet ground, extinguishing his lanterns, and lay in pain calling for help until 7 am. He was taken to the station, then to the express station fire. He is in serious condition with shock internal injuries and possible pneumonia from exposure.
