The Tenth Annual Elocution Contest under Ex celsior Lodge LBA will be held in the 1.0.0 F. Hall on Friday October 27 at 745 p.m. Open to Rivers and surrounding district children with 20 cent entry. Gardener Sonogo Iwabuchi Burned To Death In Bedroom
Jap gardener Sonogo Iwabuchi known as Charlie, about 60, single, resident of the old Noonan property at Twenty sixth street and Princess avenue, was burned to death Saturday morning in his bedroom at that address. Br Brandon Sun. T. L. McKittrick harvested four acres of sunflowers last week using a grain binder and loading onto cordwood racks. A blizzard cutter and blower, tractor crew, and teams stored about seven tons per acre in a trench silo covered with chaff to exclude air. Crystal City, Courier.

Rivers Town Council Sees Budget, Bylaw Readings Passed
The Rivers Town Council met on Wednesday September 13 with Mayor Dunsmore presiding. Minutes of the last meeting were adopted and Finance Committee reports approved paying Electric Light Account 493 15 and General Accounts 399 64. Bylaw 268 fixing the 1935 tax rate was finally read and signed. Old Age Pension for Charles Tufts was recommended. A W Johnson was added to the Relief Committee. The council adjourned.

Canadian National reports August travel surge and Expo traffic
Tourist traffic in Canada rose after the opening month of the season with August being very heavy on the Canadian National System. Prospects of large traffic to and from Chicago for the Century of Progress Exposition were noted by C. W. Johnston general passenger traffic manager. Prairie Province excursions to the Pacific Coast boosted holiday movement and exhibitions in Eastern and Western Canada showed higher attendance than in prior years.
