Manitoba University marks 75th anniversary year

The University of Manitoba celebrates 75 years since its 1877 founding and its evolution from an examining body to an instructional university. Affiliated colleges retain private funding while Brandon College and St Boniface receive government grants. The 76th anniversary events began with a service at St John’s Cathedral and included a library cornerstone ceremony by Vincent Massey and a convocation. The anniversary culminates in a 75th anniversary dance.

Daly rural municipality bylaw allows municipal physician for Ri vers residents

Notice of first and second readings of By law No. 1146 under the Municipal and Health Service Acts. The bylaw authorizes the town of Rivers and Daly to hire a qualified municipal physician under a May 2 1952 agreement. The vote by ratepayers is set for October 31 1952 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at six ward locations.

Town of Rivers Bylaw 706 appoints Municipal Physician

The town at Rivers passes first and second readings of Bylaw 706 under the Municipal and Health Service Acts. It authorizes engaging a Municipal Physician to provide free medical care to residents under terms in an agreement dated May 2, 1952, attached to the bylaw and on file at the clerk’s office. The notice, dated October 1, 1952, sets inspection hours at the Legion Hall Rivers on October 7, with W T Dyer as Secretary-Treasurer.
