Union Church Anniversary Services Featured by Noted Guests

Anniversary services at Union Church will open next Sunday October 31 with Rev J Reid field secretary of Union Churches delivering the sermon and choir music. On Monday November 1 a fowl supper from 5 to 730 p m followed by an 815 concert in the church auditorium promises a top program from Brandon College talents including Bran don Male Quartet Mrs Wilkins Miss Greig Niss Moffat Mr Stone and Rev Lowery Admission is 1 for adults 50c for children.

Rivers Town Council Passes Sunday Closing Advice and Salaries

Minutes show council resolutions including instructing a secretary to seek advice on Sunday shop closures, granting $50 to the Boys and Girls Club, continuing Electric Light Service for G. L. Guy, and raising the Scavenger's salary to 190 per month effective October 1, with the meeting adjourned.

Want Station Moved Brandon to East Junction

Brandon Board of Trade will present a petition to move Knox station on the Grand Trunk one mile farther east to join the CPR junction with the railway commissioners in Winnipeg on Monday.

Result of Local Poll on Dry Measure

Local poll held Monday showed a dry victory across three prairie provinces plus Nova Scotia for prohibition. In Rivers 138 voters favored prohibition to 121 against, a 17 vote margin, while Winnipeg, Brandon and Souris also went dry.

Children’s Day Services at St James Church

The Annual Children’s Day Services were held at St James Church last Sunday. Mrs R Tivy spoke during the morning Sunday School session using lantern slides to illustrate the story of two Bible Heroes. In the evening the Sunday School scholars formed a choir and sang, while the rector urged safeguarding and instructing children by example and precept.

Birth Haines At Watrous October 25

A son was born to Mr and Mrs F K Haines formerly of Rivers at Watrous on Monday October 25.

Anniversary Services At Daly Church

Anniversary services were held in Daly church last Sunday with Rev. Jas Scout of Chater as preacher. A supper and concert Monday drew a large crowd and Mrs Tillman and her daughter Gracie left town for Mon treat en route to Aberdeen Scotland. Mrs McMath won the bean guessing contest at the Presbyterian bazaar with a guess of 7900 and actual 2873. Rev R H Fotheringham has resigned to take up work at Hanley Sask.

Rivers School Delays Start Time for Winter Months

Parents and children are told Rivers School will open at 9 30 a m starting Monday November 1 a 9 30 a m start time will persist through the winter months causing a shift from the previous 9 a m opening.
