Union Church Notes and Sunday School Rally Planned

A stewards meeting was held at Union Church on Monday evening. Arrangements for the Sunday School rally on the 17th are progressing. Attend at 2 30 p.m. for an informal, helpful program. The pastor preached on What is man that Thou art mindful of him. The choir rendered the anthem.

Better weather complemented the annual Rivers Boys and Girls Fair held Friday at Rivers school. Students displayed varied school work, cooking, vegetables, and live stock with many prizes awarded. Judges stayed busy as exhibits crowded a room and visitors toured the new school building.

Daly Church hosts anniversary services Sunday October 10 at 11 a.m. and 7 30 p.m with Rev Hyslop Dixon of Union Church Alexander as speaker and special choir music. James White told the Vancouver Rotary Club that U S and Canada papers use about 2 150 000 tons of newsprint annually, denuding 1000 square miles of mature forest land each year and illustrating the large impact of print manufacture on North American forests.

Rivers Marries to Continuous Telephone Service

For the first time in its history Rivers has continuous telephone service with the new arrangement starting Friday October 1. A large number of new subscribers have been added and more are to have phones installed. The Gazette plans to list new subscribers in a future issue for readers.
