Amateur Contest and Dance Sponsored by Rivers Board of Trade

The Rivers Board of Trade hosts a Friday November 20 amateur contest and dance in the 1.0 OF Ball starting 7 45 p m. Open to local and out of town talent with seven minute acts. Prizes first 1000 second 5 crown 3 for greatest distance and youngest contestant. Entries due noon day of contest. Dance after with Midnight Moon Moths. Admission 35 cents contest and dance 25 dance only 20 contest only children.

Joint Anglican Service at St James Rivers

A joint service of the Roseville Ancrum Wheatland and Rivers congregations will be held at St James Church Rivers on Sunday November 22 at 2 30 pm. Out of town members with cars are asked to aid those without transport. No other service will be held that Sunday. Sunday School 200.

United Church Daly Church Anniversary Services

The United Church Daly Church will hold anniversary services next Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. Rev Denyes of Newdale will be the speaker with special music by the choir. Mr C J McFadden will lead the 7 30 p.m. service assisted by the Taxis boys. The W M S Thank Offering Meeting is Thursday at 7 45 p.m. All are welcome.

A Fool and His Folly Bequests From Charles Vance Miller

The Toronto eccentric Charles Vance Miller left a series of odd bequests in his will. He names a business rival, an Edmonton acquaintance, several jockey club shares, a hostile parliament member, ministers in three towns, a Roman Catholic brewery to Protestants, and three business partners, with the final balance to the Toronto mother bearing the most children in the decade after his death.

Large Audience Enjoys The Wild Oats Boy Play

The Rivers Community Club presented The Wild Oats Boy at 100 F Hall on Friday. A large school-age cast drew laughter and praise for its engaging plot and well-trained performers. Performers included Mrs N Tivy Mrs J Hanlon Miss E A Morrison and Mr G B Poole with dances by Isabelle Peat Joyce Lee Billy Tivy Maurice Gunness and others.

Townley Dies at 89 in Rivers Home

John Townley of Erickson, Manitoba, aged 89 years six months, died at the home of his daughter Mrs Albert Wareham in Rivers on Wednesday November 18.

Unlawful Handling of Meat and Seasonal Slaughter Permits

Regulations under the Public Health Act require licensed slaughter houses for meat sale. During December to February farmers may obtain free permits to slaughter their own animals for sale by carcass side or quarter if meat is handled cleanly. Permits issued by the Division of Food Control Department of Health and Public Welfare.

Mrs. R. N. Dunsmore Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. R. N. Dunsmore died at Brandon Hospital at 11 30 p m on Tuesday November 17 following long illness. She was highly respected and mourned by a large circle of friends. Survived by her husband Mayor Dunsmore and family. Funeral Friday at 2 30 pm in Rivers United Church.

Rivers Town Council Minutes Set Nov 12 Meeting

Regular Rivers town council meeting presided by R G Sinclair notes adoption of prior minutes and Court of Revision. Resolutions authorize paying Electric Light $399.00 and General $50.71, a $400 monthly payment agreement with Mr Luchuck, renting Lot 18 Block 9 to E Goodeve for $300 monthly, renting a room in the bcean Block to Mir Brockie for storage, a $4000 rink shelter appropriation, and keeping skating fees at last year’s level. Meeting adjourned.

Anglican diocese names Archbishop M. M. Harding to push cross denom education plan

In the Rupert's Land synod closing session Archbishop M. M. Harding was tasked with forming a committee to gain support from all denominations for a unified representation to the Manitoba government. The aim is to include religious education in public school curricula.
