Lieut. Gerald A. Lynch, 30, died after a parachute jump at the Joint Air School. It was the first fatality in over 20,000 Canadian paratroop jumps since the war. Lynch, a veteran parachutist, jumped from three Dakota planes. both main and emergency chutes failed. A Knights of Columbus service followed at St Augustine's Roman Catholic church in Brandon before his burial in Montreal. He was married and lived with Mrs. Lynch at Shilo Camp.
Rivers residents learned of the royal birth on Sunday as all electrical power failed until about 4 pm. People anxious about the newcomer asked Hydro for details while gas supplies ran low and service stations could not assist. Some took drives to pass the wait.
W. Allen of Rivers received cuts and bruises when struck by a car on a Brandon street Sunday night. A companion, a 16-year-old Brandon girl, sustained a broken leg. Both were taken to a hospital.

Mrs. O. Hall, chief operator, says many new telephones have been installed but the demand remains high. New installations include a man who identified himself as Fred Keating, 45, a magician known for making a bird in a cage disappear, taken to a New York hospital with both wrists staned in a police reported personal safety incident.
Nominations on November 18 1930 brought a contest in ward three with J R W Shanks facing R H White in the Daly rural council race. In Rivers mayor Dunsmore faced Arthur Johnson, with ward contenders L Marsh W G Thomas in ward one, L Wiegand J Bellamy in ward two, and A Wareham E J R Bailey in ward three. A school trustees contest in ward three pitted J A McKenzie against C Steggles. The Bradwardine gathering honored 26th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, but two days later Mrs. Moore 84 died. John Brown, active farmer near Rivers since 1905, died aged 65 after long illness. Zion church rebuilding opened amid curling and skating club events with a government rink contest and a Brandon team visiting. A banquet followed in Hunter’s hall with speeches by many including Reeve Seater and Mat.
RCAF personnel from the Joint Air School attended a special service at St Matthew’s procathedral Brandon to dedicate an Air Force ensign in memory of service men from parts of the British Empire who trained at Wheat City. Also assisting was Hon Frt Lt George B Fee Protestant chaplain at the school.
