Sunday School will begin at 11 am on Sunday May 14 in place of 2 30 pm. A special program honors mothers living or dead with emblems. Everyone is invited. A Mothers Choir will lead and provide music at the evening service.
A meeting will be held in the frown Hall Rivers on Friday May 5 at 8 p m to reorganize the club. All members and prospective joiners are requested to attend.
Pacific Lodge No 71 and Friendship Rebekah Lodge No 27 announce an Anniversary Service on Sunday May 14 at 3 p.m. at St James Church Rev A R Hall will address the brethren and sisters. Brethren meet at the Hall at 2.30 p.m. and depart for the church at 2.45. Rebekah members meet at the church. All brothers and sisters invited.
Mr John Murdoch of Rivers died in Winnipeg on Tuesday evening after a long illness. His son and daughter were with him at the end. He moved to Rivers years ago, lived a retiring life, and seldom appeared in public. Illness worsened two to three months ago necessitating removal to Winnipeg where his daughter Jessie and son John attended him. Despite medical efforts, he never recovered and passed away. The remains will be interred in Winnipeg.
Under Knox Church Rivers auspices the Brandon Knox Church choir will give a concert here on Thursday. Pacific Lodge 1 CCF paraded to the Methodist Church last Sunday. E E Grant sold his general store to Hagestad and McLean. Board of Trade offers 25 prize for best improved premises this summer. A service was held in the Rivers shops in memory of Charles M Hays Titanic loss.
Thomas A. Bradshaw and Edith Luken were united in marriage at the Parsonage with Rev. S A Martin officiating. Attended by Mr and Mrs F J Walker the couple will reside in Rivers.
All Rivers stores will close at 12 30 p m starting Thursday May 18 and continue every Thursday through May June July and August creating a weekly half holiday pattern for the four summer months.
Birth notice from Myra announces a boy and a girl born to Mr and Mrs H M Harvey of Myra on Sunday April 39th.
A year into the Rivers Boys' Work, about sixty boys in C.8. E. T. groups meet in Sunday School and mid week sessions. The program centers on the Life of Christ with four periods covering devotion, business, social activity, and physical education, followed by intellectual development. Notable events include camps at Shoal Lake and Mr. Dobson's farm, the Older Boys' Conference, the Father and Sons Banquet, and a Pancake Social with Irish Concert. Credit is given to Rev. Hall, T. W. Offen, Mr. Saunders, and Mr. Simpson for leadership and to the older boys for support.
