The Robins Family Frontier Trek 1880 Manitoba
In 1880 Mr and Mrs Frederick Robins and seven children left Halifax and pressed west via St Boniface Fort Garry and Portage la Prairie to Rapid City Manitoba. Typhoid claimed three children, leaving two girls and a son to endure onward. They built a rough lumber home within a log stockade as land opened at Roden post office. Tarbolton Scotland ties and rapid mail service formed new district identity while homesteaders raised potatoes and scarce grain, with lumber from the Assiniboine river for roofs and shelters.
