Mrs Offen Sec Treas of the Cross Auxiliary reports a letter from France dated February 9, 1918. The sender explains parcel delays due to censorship and missing contents. expresses gratitude for the thoughtful gift and extends best wishes for peace and blessings to friends in Rivers.
The Grain Growers Association holds a meeting at 2 p.m. in town to make final plans on the upcoming program and related farming matters.
S Grummett of Jubilee Farm Pettapiece won first prize for 6 row barley in the Northwestern District and the barley sweepstakes for the province west. He also claimed the Reserve Grand Championship for the entire province.
Manitoba districts organize Riv ers into Brandon division for farm work this spring. Department of Education offers concessions for students entering Grade 9 without exams if they work productively this summer. Grades 9 and 10 students will take final high school exams the last week of March before farm placement.
January pupil enrollment was 20 with average attendance 18.71. February enrollment was 21 with average attendance 12.67. Grade VIII scores include Jean Smyth 88 and Edythe Mitchell 88. other pupils and marks listed. Grade IX scores include Lillian Smyth 77 and Fanny Varcoe 69 with several others.
The Red Cross announces tomorrow's meeting on Friday March 8 at Mrs Grieve's home. Mrs Falconer and Mrs Grieve will provide silver tea, and all ladies are invited including non members. Workers urged to attend for current tasks.
A Grand Whist Drive and Dance to raise funds for an aged and maimed Oddfellows home in Winnipeg is set for Friday March 8 at the Oddfellows Hall. Pacific Lodge 71 and Friendship Lodge 27 sponsor with whist on stage and dancing to follow. Cards and dancing begin at 8 30 sharp with prizes for ladies and gentlemen and a booby prize for cards. Tickets available now. Rebekahs and Odd Fellows urged to attend.
