Carnival Sports Night Showed Sparse Entries at the Rink

The Carnival Sports event at the Rink drew poor attendance despite friendly weather and an attractive program. Highlights included a Broom Ball game won by Mighty Midgets 8 to 0 against Gentle Giants, with events featuring Youth and Open races and the Ladies’ Open.

Rivers Council Minutes Report February 21 1923

The Rivers Town Council met on Wednesday evening February 21 with Mayor Forman presiding. Resolutions included canceling taxes totaling 6.37 for block 3a, assigning Bylaw No 166 three readings, appointing Wm LePage as Poundkeeper for 1923, and authorizing a weights and measures bylaw and a bylaw binder. The Sec Treas was instructed to petition for a Small Debts Court Magistrate and suggest J C Cousins for the role. Council adjourned.

Local Farm Accident Hurts Young Higginson Son

Howard Higginson youngest son of James Higginson was badly hurt on Tuesday afternoon when a team bolted and sleighs drove over him injuring his leg in two places. His sister-in-law Mrs R Higginson carried the baby to town to summon a doctor as he had long-standing leg trouble and the event is considered serious.

Proved Themselves Good Curlers at Oak River Bonspiel

The Oak River curling rink returned with first prize in one open event and were finalists in the Grand Challenge, winning 9 of 11 games. Messrs. Thompson Moxley Maw and Payne praised their hosts, noting Rivers curlers’ usual courteous treatment at Ox River.
