Rivers Council Minutes Report June Meeting

Town Council met June 18 with Mayor Sinclair presiding. Resolutions include appointing the Sports Committee representative, tax rebates and business tax on Wong Lee, hiring Constable A Duncan at 100 per month, and bylaw preparation. Several property sales and rentals were approved or proposed, plus a three month leave for Councillor Johnson and road project purchase for 650. Council adjourned after final motions and a note on Bible Society depository.

Rivers Sports Day Delivers Strong Turnout and Close Contests

Rivers held its annual sport day with 9 senior ball teams 5 juniors 3 ladies and 4 football teams in a day of keen playing. Teams included Oak River Oak Lake Alexander Hamiota Griswold Pendennis Brandon Cardale and Rivers among senior entrants. Junior matches featured Rapid City Cardale Wheatland and two Rivers squads. Ladies came from Brandon Alexander and Rivers. The football finals saw Rivers against the Griswold Indians in a heated conclusion.

Riverside County Fair Sports Day Highlights and Winners

A bicycle race secured by Harry Belz and a pony race won by Alex McDonald were among the events. River teams swept juniors and football while crowds praised meals by the Union Ladies Aid. Despite strong turnout, overall receipts lagged expectations but the day showcased the fullest sports program yet with dances downtown drawing many attendees.

Daly Wheat Pool Meeting

The Daly Local of the Manitoba Wheat Producers Limited met at the Oddfellows Hall with sixty three shareholders signing in. Officers elected were J W Smith as Chairman H Brown as Vice Chairman G L Davies Sec Treas F P Clark T A White T Seens D Rose and E Chapman Directors. Delegates to the Brandon annual meeting were J W Smith H Brown and G L Davies.

Notice of Electric Service Interruption

Due to necessary work on the plant there will be no Electric Light or Power from Monday June 30 to Thursday July 3. The public is asked to take notice and govern themselves accordingly. C. H. Gabe, Sec Treas.

Gazette Announces Week Off For Holidays

The newspaper will not publish next week as the staff takes a short holiday. Managers say the break is earned and chosen to inconvenience advertisers and readers as little as possible.

Rivers High bids farewell to Miss Kennedy and Mr Ferrier

Grade 10 of Rivers High honored departing teacher Miss Kennedy with a silver Parker pencil and addressed her at a party in Wheatland. Principal Ferrier also received a token of respect at another farewell gathering, with G Couch presenting a silver Eversharp pencil and the grade's signed address.
