This letter from Mrs. Alexander Colville expresses sincere gratitude to the people of Rivers and district for hospitality shown to her son, Fit Sgt Wm F Colville, during training with the RCAF. She notes his high regard for their kindness and blesses all who offered loyalty and comfort.
Local and personal items note Pte Fred Taylor training at Portage la Prairie and weekend visit at his home. Miss Kay Beaton returns from Wapella after a two week visit. Mrs Oscar Vincent and son from Chicago visit Mr R N Dunsmore. Mrs W R Gillespie and son from Renner Man vis iting her parents. Miss Minnie Shylega joins the R C A F Women’s Division and heads to Toronto for training. LAC Leslie and Mrs McAndrew of Claresholm visit Wheatland relatives. E T Couch of Shaunavon visits Mrs J H Couch and cousin Alf Couch before heading to Toronto and Peterborough for summer. J Gilchrist adds thirty foot extension to drug store lunch counter, opening new service area early next week. United Sunday School holds annual picnic at Frank Ashton’s farm with games and a lawn supper. thanks extend to the Ashton family and committee.
Church of England in Canada notes no services at Heavily or Ancrum this week. A joint service for three congregations will be held at St James Rivers at 3 pm. Sunday School at 11 am and Evening Prayer at 3 pm. Junior Auxiliary picnic at Oakey farm on Saturday June 27. Joint picnics planned for St Matthew Ancrum and St James Rivers on Thursday July 2.
Rev W R Denegh of United Church announces Sunday June 28 with anniversary services at Daly at 11 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. Rev S J B Parsons of Knox Church Brandon to conduct the morning service and Rev R G Thompson of Forrest to lead the evening. Pettapiece notes a service is withdrawn in Rivers and an alternative worship by Lieut N T Chappel for those unable to attend at Daly.
A four footed steer weighing about 1450 pounds is reported stray and found on the Walter Ware farm. The owner may reclaim by proving ownership and paying adoption costs.
A revision allows Aircrew applicants for pilot duties in the Royal Canadian Air Force to qualify under a lower vision standard. Many previously unable to enter due to vision limits may now have a chance. Accepted applicants will receive aviation goggles and spectacles with corrective lenses and may seek medical reexamination if previously deemed unfit.
Osborne Scott of Canadian National Railway announces summer fair travel deals for Western Canada. A single round trip fare will apply to Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Brandon Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Edmonton Exhibition Saskatoon Industrial Exhibition Regina and more.
Exhibition coverage extends to smaller fairs in Carman Portage la Prairie Dauphin and other cities across Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba will be at Brandon from June 1st to July 3rd with tickets on sale at all stations June 27th to July 3rd and a return limit of July 6th.
