Rivers High School closing exercises mark end of grade XI

About forty attendees including friends and guests attended a banquet at the school after the program. Principal W S Stewart opened the event with remarks and Albert Wareham led as toastmaster. The class staged toasts and addresses by students, with gifts presented to four members as part of the closing ceremony. Decorations featured class colors rose and silver and a dance followed in the I0CF Hall.

Daly Council approves Forrest to Rivers road plan near Rivers

Daly Municipal Council held a special meeting on June 24 1936 to consider a government road from Forrest to Rivers. The decision approves a route west from Forrest along the hydro line to Section 32 1 20 then north to Rivers with future extension to Highway 28 at Harding. The vote was 4 to 2 in favor.

Rebekahs Hold District Meeting At Rivers

The Rebekah annual meeting District No 11 gathered members from Hamiota Rapid City and Rivers Lodges at Rivers. Sister Miller presided with welcome by Sister Grummet and addresses by Assembly President Sister LiiHe Jack and Assembly Warden Sister J Duff. Officers for next term installed include Dist President Coombs Hamiota and Dist Vice President Borratt Rivers. Friendship Lodge hosted a fine supper and presented gifts to leaders as the evening closed.

United Church Service Plans for July Sunday

The church outlines a Sunday schedule titled The 24th Psalm with lines about who may ascend to the hill of the Lord and clean hands. It marks the pastor's last Sunday before holidays. Daly serves baptism at 10:45 a.m. Pettapiece leads at 3 p.m. Rivers conducts 7.30 p.m. service.

On Wednesday July 1st the town marked a general holiday with all stores closed. Residents used the day to attend Brandon Fair and enjoy the community events.

Liberal Progressives to Convene Nominating Meeting at Rivers

An open convention of Liberals and Progressives in Lansdowne division will meet at Oddfellows Hall Rivers on Monday July 6 at 3 pm to nominate a candidate for the forthcoming provincial election. Prominent speakers will address the gathering.

Ten Years Ago in Prairie District Notices

Ten years ago in Winnipeg Violet Anne Main married Geo Barefoot of Rivers. Forty three couples entered the Community Club Tennis Tournament with Oak River Wawanesa and other clubs represented. Frederick Robins the Pendennis district's first child died in Humboldt Sask. Fred Addington was badly injured at Firdale in a train accident with his left arm amputated. Rivers Sports Day draws good crowd despite heat

The Rivers event on Wednesday featured eight men’s baseball teams four women’s softball squads and six men’s softball teams. Prize winners were Dunrea Virden Bradwardine Brandon Rivers and Oak Lake. Bicycle races saw Mervin Moxley first Earl Todd second. A large crowd attended the nighttime dance at the CNLR freight shed and the Board of Trade praised the day’s planning.
