Rivers School Board Sets 1937 Levy and Awards

Rivers School Trustees met on February 17 with J. T Bowman chairing. They deleted a January minute entry on 1937 estimates, adopted the rest, and approved a 7800 levy for 1937 and 24442 in payments. Coronation medals will be awarded to pupils at King George VI and Queen Elizabeth ceremonies.

Lantern Lecture on The Men Who Crucified Christ at St James

Sunday services next Sunday at Roseville 300 pm and Rivers 730 pm with Sunday School at 200. Another Lantern Lecture titled The Men Who Crucified Christ will be held in St James Parish Hall on Wednesday March 3 at 8 pm.

Daly Rural Council Minutes Open in February Session

Daly Rural Council met at Rivers on February 16 with Reeve Seater presiding. Resolutions approved include issuing 5000 for 1935 assessor salary, appointing C Lamb as Noxious Weeds Inspector for 1937 at 125.90, and several bylaw and appointment measures. Finance reported all in order and the meeting adjourned to March 9.

Rivers Board of Trade Annual Banquet Delights Members

The Rivers Board of Trade held its annual banquet at the Alexandra Hotel despite foul weather with about forty attendees. President E E Grant chaired as J H Wareham reviewed the term, praising R G Sinclair, Sec Treas, followed by a singalong led by Jas A McKenzie and Cliff Livesey. Guest speaker B T Chappell of Canadian National Railways outlined railway progress and urged support.

Chappell Praises Hungerford At Rivera Banquet

Manitoba District General Superintendent T Chappell spoke at the Rivera Board of True annual banquet praising Canadian National Railways President 5S Hungerford as the right man for the tight place. He noted Hungerford’s rise from apprentice to the road’s highest post and was warmly applauded.

United Church Announces Sunday Service Theme and Meetings

Move for Technical Education in Rural Schools

Proposal to extend technical education from city schools to rural areas will be presented at the 28th Manitoba School Trustees Association convention in Winnipeg this week. Trustees from Oak Lake district will move a resolution urging action to establish technical education for country students in Grade VIII or higher, following a strong Rivers School Board resolution passed last October.
