The Tuxis High School community held a Valentine Social to say goodbye to John Murdoch. After games and lunch, Willie McFadden read an address and Ormond Butterill presented a Parker gold pencil as a token of esteem.
Nothing But The Truth a three act comedy will be staged by St James Amateur Dramatic Society at Wagar Hall on Wednesday February 27th and Monday March 3rd Admission 50 cents and 25 cents after the Monday show a dance with a 50 cent charge will follow Refreshments will be served Tickets are on sale from any Dramatic Society officer or member and a large audience is hoped for next Wednesday evening
Cast includes R. Bennett and G Wilkes as partners with E M Ralston the broker. Others named: J H Barker, Donnely, S Simpson, C Van Dusen, Duran of New York, Rev Nash, Mrs E M Ralston, Mrs J Hanton, Gwendolyn Ralston, Ethel Clark heiress, Miss A Jones, Mabel Jackson, Mrs A Richardson, Sable Jackson, Mrs Durrant, Martha the servant. Scenes span a broker's office in a prominent hotel and a Long Island summer home across three acts. Proceeds benefit benevolent causes.
Captain S Robinson RNR received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire in New York for heroic work at Yokohama during the 1923 earthquake relief. The investiture was performed by Sir Harry Armstrong with Br. Canada Pacific officials present aboard the Empress of Canada.
Jessie R. Murdoch of Rivers and George Bennett of Prince George B C were wed Friday February 15 at Mrs A E Johnstone’s home with Rev S A Martin officiating The couple left by East Train for Scotland for four months then plan to settle in Prince George B C The ceremony featured a bridal chorus by J A McKenzie and a reception hosted by Mrs Co A Anear The wedding party included maid of honor Coara Johnstone and John Murdoch plus Ivy Miners Mildred Mitchell and Clive Cluff as hostesses
At press time the Grand Challenge and the Aikins events in Rivers Bonspiel had finished. Joe Morrows rink reaches the Consolation final while the consolation winner remains to be decided. Jim Yaster scored an eight end on Cousins and a six end to tie Stone, highlighting a eventful bonspiel with strong play and widely spread prizes. Weather was favorable and curling proved entertaining.
P F Thompson of the Bijou Theatre schedules a strong closing week with Wicks taking over in March. Highlights include Agnes Ayres in Daughter of Luxury on Monday and Tuesday, Nothing but the Treath withdrawn, a St James Amateur Dramatic Luciviy performance, a dance after the show, When the Clouds Roll By with Douglas Fairbanks on Thursday, and the finale with Who are My Parents on Friday and Saturday, with further announcements to come.
Dorothy Nevill wed Ford Richardson of Fort Frances Ontario at the bride’s Carnegie home on Friday February 15. The ceremony united the families with vows and a reception following.
