Mild winter warms Minnedosa readers note

Obituary of Mrs Ann Fletcher Ollett of Pettapiece

Mrs Ann Fletcher Ollett of Pettapiece district died February 11 at age 89. Born March 12 1837 in Llangrose Brecknockshire Wales she came to Canada in 1886 living in Winnipeg before moving to Pettapiece. She is survived by three sons William James Robert and daughters R Thomas R Jones Winnipeg W Gallop Pettapiece and S Henry Pettapiece plus 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral held at home and Pettapiece Cemetery February 13 with Rev W L F Patteson officiating and wreaths placed on the casket. Pallbearers included S Henry W Gallop R Jones J Gallop W J Henry.

Rivers School Trustees Hold Regular Meeting

The Rivers School Trustees met Thursday evening with Chairman Lyon presiding. Minutes were read and adopted, accounts of 54.90 were approved, Mrs. B J D Ellis was granted 12 days pro rata salary as substitute teacher in January. Lyon named board representative on War Memorial Committee. Purchases committee authorized to buy one dozen blinds to replace worn ones.

United Church Preaches and Elections At Daly and Pettapiece

The United Church plans a Sunday sermon on The Ministry of the Clever Fingers at Daly and Rivers. Rev J S Watson of the Lord's Day Alliance preaches at Pettapiece. Daly Ladies Aid elects President Miss Eddy, Secretary Mrs Newman, Treasurer Mrs E O Dyer. Pettapiece Ladies Aid elects President Mrs Jahrig and several vice presidents. A midweek prayer service on February 24 will cover Article 5 The Sin of Man.

Rivers Juniors Beat Rapid City Sextette

Large crowd watched Rivers Jr defeat Rapid City Sextette 5 to 0 on Thorsday. Gerald Anderson in goal starred for Rivers while Gump stopped Rapid City shots with a new goalie stick. Referee Stan Baker praised the game as exciting and fans thanked the crowd. A return home and home series is hoped before the season ends.

Brandon Lodge Members Demonstrate White Rose Degree

Ss O E Have Visitors Lodge Colonial Sons of England Benefits Society met Monday with six Brandon Lodge members attending. Seven brethren were advanced after degree work and several addresses followed, with refreshments served. Brandon notes ongoing gains in membership.

Windermere Spud Fame Faces Murray Shield Winners

In Victoria British Columbia the Windermere district prize scene recalls 1884 pioneer Francis Armstrong of Sorel Quebec who built a potato empire on Columbia Lake land and shipped crops to CPR camps. Arthur J Walliss Invermere Ranch led with 4082 pounds while Windermere association secured seventeen first prizes and twenty three other awards at the Murray Shield event.
