Rivers Council Minutes Adopt Finance Reports and Rebates

Town council met February one with Mayor Dunsmore presiding. The Finance Committee reports were adopted and accounts totaling 1700.23 were paid. Electric Light accounts 593.70 were approved for payment. A rebate of 28.32 was approved for Mr Moxley on a faulty meter.

Linklater Elected Rivers Fire Chief and Local News

Ten years ago A J Linklater was elected chief of the Rivers Fire Brigade. Miss Margaret Bradley married Mr Alex Rabe at Daly. Rev Mr Duckworth aided union church formation at Alexander. Victrola Concert and Knitting Contest under Red Cross Branch featured a pig auction won by H Wareham from Jimmy Higginson and Chas Howard. Mrs J Cameron won the knitting contest.

Pettapiece curlers from Pettapiece visited Rivers Curling Club on Friday evening meeting local players. Fred Giles skip and John Shanks led the visitors with Les Pettapiece, R Slater and Basler among their team. Joe Thompson defeated Giles 15 to 8 in the opener. Shanks and Sinclair drew after ten ends.

Sons of England Install Officers at Lodge Colonial Meeting

Lodge Colonial, Sons of England Benefit Society, held a meeting Tuesday with guests Bro. R. Harden and Bro. Veale who installed officers for the year. Officers named include President C. Mott Vice President W. Parker Treasurer A. Johnson and six Guides. Speeches by Veale and Harden praised the lodge and refreshments followed a social half hour.
