The Ontario Government allocates 1,000,000 this fiscal year to provide hydro electric power to province farmers. The plan follows earlier costs by the Drury and Ferguson ministries for primary and secondary line work.
An important Rivers Curling Club meeting will be held Thursday January 6 at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall. The main business is selecting rinks for the second schedule starting January 7 and planning the annual bonspiel. Those curling in the second schedule should notify the secretary treasurer H. M. Harvey before the date.
Sunday Schools of St James and United Church will hold a New Year morning service and rally at 11 o clock in the United Church. Revs Patteson and Nash will give addresses and children will perform special numbers. All are invited to attend.
The annual Xmas tree event at Jiothair School on December 22 drew a large audience of pupils and friends. The program featured songs drills and dialogues with notable monologues by Alena Vickery and Ida Harvey plus a candle drill and the Old Maids drill. A closing dialogue The Obstinate Family was staged by former pupils B Shanks Airey Geo Seater and Misses F Airey M Shanks, assisted by Hilda Gilman. Santa Claus brought the gifts and the evening concluded happily with thanks to Miss Gilman by Rev Dickson.

Services were well attended last Sunday with a special Pettapiece choir and Sunday School program.
