The Rivers Town Council held a December 16 meeting with Mayor Dunsmore presiding. Resolutions approved include paying Electric Light account 5009 and accounts 1519.50. Taxes for 1936 to be cancelled and dog Tax bylaw delinquents to be prosecuted if unpaid.
The town endures a deep December chill with readings near 43 below zero and thermometers flirting with 50 below. A Canadian Press Dispatch notes a proposed bill to abolish the returned soldier’s preference in civil service, expected in the Commons this year. Rapid City gossip targets Geo Nielson amid rumors of his departure.

Mrs. Smyth aged 95 died Friday after a fall fractured hip. She came to the Oak River area with husband in 1879, lived in Rivers last 12 years, survived by seven children and two daughters. Funeral at Rivers United Church with Rev. W. L. T. Patteson officiating. interment Rivers cemetery. Pallbearers were five sons and H. H. Nesbitt. Interment capably arranged by J. E. Thompson.
The Rivers Community Club hosts a surprise party for Sid Simpson at Mr and Mrs D A Moore home before his departure from town. Members, friends, and the club president Bert Moore praised his initiative and energy and presented a China Tea Service as a token of appreciation.
