The piece argues the dollar is growing larger daily as prices fall due to abundant crops and cheaper goods. it warns that wage levels may not reflect living standards and urges thrift as a national policy for individual and state well being, ending with a Christmas Tree reminder.
A small crowd gathered at the Rivers town hall on Tuesday between one and two o'clock as nominations were in order for Mayor and Councillors, and for trustees of the Rivers Consolidated School District. Acting returning officer C. H. Payne read the names. most offices were filled by acclamation.
Ward summaries list candidates for wards 1 2 3 4 and 5 with names T W Offen L Wiegand J Nesbitt T R Grieve F W Buggey T A Grieve W Rea and T A White and James McFadden. Rea withdrew from Ward 4 leaving no elections this year and councillor Grant has another year to run. A vote of thanks to the retiring mayor was unanimously carried.
The semi annual Union Adult Bible meeting was conducted Monday evening at Mrs. C. A. Anear's home with 13 members present. Rev. Sallans chaired and officers were elected including President Mrs. C. A. Anear, Vice President Mrs. Chater, Secretary-Treasurer Miss J.1 Johnstone, Teacher R. J. Madden, Assistant Teacher Mrs. Salians. After adjournment a pleasant evening with lunch followed.
W. R. Head was nominated and elected by acclamation on Tuesday as the first Mayor of Rivers. Council nominees include D. C. Jonason R. Wilkinson C. Wagar L. Wiegand J. Thompson J. Grummett 5. A. Mills J. Higginson F. Fenwick elected Agricultural Society president and H. B. St. G. Marshall secretary-treasurer at the annual meeting. J. A. Griummett advertises men's suits from 7.85 to 17.25.
The Rivers-Daly School Trustees Association held its annual meeting on Thursday afternoon with a solid turnout. President J H Couch chaired as the session opened with addresses by W Iverach on Higher Standards of Education and J W Seater on District Nurses. Officers elected for the coming year include President A Sharman Lee and Treasurer F W Bugeey, with an executive committee comprising T Neville R N Dunsmore Mrs E O Dyer A J Madden Wm Chapman and John W Seater.
Tenders will be received by the undersigned up to Monday December 20 for conveyance of children on routes 1 2 3 4 and 5 at Rivers Consolidated School No 1484.
Shot large eagle brought to town by H. Dederick. The golden eagle was stuffed in Winnipeg and measured feet from tip to tip. It was shot by his son Harold Iowe near Moline two months ago, rare king of birds noted, Mr. Doderick proud.
